Hi Mark,

Konnichi wa. To rank well in Japanese search engines, you should have selected a domain name with .jp extension instead of .com and/or hosted the domain with a Japanese hosting company.

To rank in Yahoo Japan, the best bet is to go for Yahoo directory inclusion with all Japanese keywords in your description. It is worth the $300 investment per year.

Apart from that you need to do the usual SEO in Japanese language. SEO charges in Japan are very high and many of them offer poor services. If you let me know your monthly budget, I can let you know what SEO services we could offer for your Japanese site.

Hi I am looking for help in improving my rankings for the keyword ラフティング　(rafting in Japanese)
Any tips?
For Japan Yahoo is the major search engine with Google a distant second but slowly making ground as the years go by.

Hi Allen, To see how many pages Google has indexed from your site, go to Google and type the following command

site:www.allenx.net ***

You can see that Google has indexed 59 pages from your site. And none of them are in the supplemental. So be happy !

Don't put so many outgoing links in your posts. They will do harm to your own page rank.

Melanie, well, I have seen that URLs, Titles, and Content with high keyword density generally rank higher in Yahoo than in Google. The best way to verify this empirical formula for keyword density would be to experiment with a brand new website with not so popular keywords.

And, yes participation in the overture paid services boost Yahoo organic rankings too. As Yahoo is #1 search engine in Japan where I live, overture paid services make a very good business.
