Posted by Google Success as Buidling Backlinks, Google Ranking Tips
There is no doubt that quality backlinks from relevant sites are important for SEO success. If a page has good content, other websites will start linking to it in a natural manner; this is the main hypothesis for including backlinks as part of the search engine ranking algorithms. Thus, a page with better content will naturally have more backlinks, and will rank better. However, in practice, one will have go for other ways of gaining relevant quality backlinks, as a part of his SEO strategy.
Getting listed in web directories, article directories, posting in forums, and blogs are some of the acceptable methods of acquiring quality backlinks. Generally, search engines index forums frequently, so posting in forums is a good way to gain quality backlinks with the anchor text of your choice. While submitting articles to directories can be a time consuming process, it does not require much effort and time to post in forums; however, one has to do his homework and take some precautions in order to be successful using forums for gaining backlinks.
You must do some research before joining any forum. You should join forums that are relevant to the sites you want to get backlinks for. You should only choose forums that are popular and active. Backlinks for high authority forums are very valuable. The number of active members and the Google PageRank of the forum can give you a good idea about its popularity. You should keep your signature short and link it to your main website. You should never create posts that sound like a propaganda or which are irrelevant to the post topic. You should pay attention to the TOS of the forum, or you will risk yourself of getting banned and losing all the backlinks you built.
If you post something which is important or useful to other readers, they will visit the site in your signature. Thus, posting in forums can give a significant traffic to your website, apart from building relevant backlinks. Forums are also good for creating your brand or image – Some of the best bloggers, Internet Marketers and SEOs spend a significant time posting on forums to increase their publicity. SEOs like Aaron Wall became famous through the platform of SEO forums. That is another benefit you may get from forum posting apart from using it for link development strategy.

2I agree that Forums are a smart way to get the backlink credit. But it also depends upon the business you are in.
It proves much more worthwhile when you participate in Forums which are relevant to one’s are of business.
Rather than participation in every of those available.

Im sure that is what’s written in the article isn’t it?
However, it is of the upmost importance that you find a forum that is reputable within your field or industry. It’s all well and good getting a random link from a forum that is relative, but a link from a forum that has excellent content and participation from key players within your industry is worth much more.

5Sorry, I think you’re wrong. forum signatures and blog posts have been discounted by the google algorithm. The google algo is based on other sites voting for you. Blog posts and forum sigs are merely you voting for yourself. (at least even article & directory submissions are vetted by someone) In excess they can also be harmful.
As an example, I created a new page, threw a dozen decent links at it, waited for its SERP to rise, then bombarded it with links from blog posts and forums. It plunged 20 places in 2 days — and got its position back when I removed the forum signatures.
Beware, is all I’m saying.

6Yes, forum posting is a good way of racking up backlinks. It’s also a good way of creating content. That is, if you just participate for a while, answering some questions on a particular subject, you’ll have the makings of a good long post before long. As long as you rewrite it quite a bit it will be unique. You can then post it to your blog for further SEO benefit.

7Having a simple link in a related forum signature can be a very effective way to get traffic , and its gives minimal seo benefit for forums that do not use the nofollow attribute

8So many people concentrate on what robots think of their websites. Posting links in forums is still a good idea because you can get HUMAN visitors to your site. People will probably find your site better from forums than search engines.

9A great article,I don’t think that google devalue forum postings, still google adds some small value to the posts and signature links. If right forums are targeted, it’ll be a very effective way to get traffic to the site.

10Forums administrators are already aware of spamming on their forums. You must have some knowledge to share in the forums so that it will not considered spamming.

12I guess the real challenge is finding these forums that actually allow you to post signatures. Lots of forums are now very keen on this.

15Forum Posting is one of the easiest and most practical way of getting exposure and driving traffic to your site. But, you must agree and follow the terms and agreement, otherwise you’ll get banned.
Plus forum postings must be done in moderation, and make sure your posts are really relevant to the topic/thread.
